Make Your Own Baby Bedding Set

Choosing the perfect baby bedding set can be very difficult. There are so many choices and sometimes baby bedding sets can be very expensive. If the bad economy has affected you, as it has most of us, making your own homemade baby bedding might be something that you would want to consider.

Babies Bedding Sets

It's easy to recreate designer baby bedding for a fraction of the cost. People do this with designer wedding gowns all the time, so why not do the same thing with baby bedding. You can follow these steps to create your own baby bedding set.

This first thing you will have to do is prepare your fabrics. This is one the best parts. You can choose whatever you would like. You'll be in control of the colors, patterns, textures, etc. It's a good idea to wash your fabrics before you start. You may also want to lightly iron the fabrics as well. After the fabric has been prepped measure and cut out sixty four 6" x 6" squares. You can use as many different fabrics as you would like. Remember it's your design so be creative! You will also need to cut a 48" x 48" square for the back of the bedding. If you have older children and you have some of their old baby clothes lying around, you can cut the clothes into squares and use them as part of the bedding.

When you have all of the fabric squares cut out you'll want to lay them out. Place the squares eight across and eight down. You can do this on your bed or on a dining room table. Any flat surface will do. You can make the bedding any size you want by adding or taking away squares. Pin the first row of eight squares together. Continue to pin each row together in this fashion. Once the squares have been pinned together you can begin sewing them together. It's a good idea to sew one row at a time.

It's important that you press the seams open. After you have completed sewing each row you can then begin to sew the rows to one another. Again, press the seams open. Once all of your rows are sewn together, the top of the bedding is finished.

Put the back fabric that you cut out earlier in the 48" x 48" square, the batting, and the bedding top together like a sandwich. Sew the top and the back of the bedding together. You can use border strips if you like to give the bedding a finishing touch. You can cut out designs to be sewed on the top of the bedding or you can buy pre-made fabric designs at your local craft store.
